All children are living in a rapidly changing world. At Hawley, we want children to develop the learning traits that they will need in order to become good learners and to continue to learn throughout the whole of their lives.
As a staff, we have developed the Hawley Habits:

As a school, we are establishing a ‘Growth Mindset’ outlook. Inspired by the work of Carol Dweck, an international researcher in the field, our mission is to instil in children a passion for stretching themselves and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it’s not going well. We want children to thrive, even when life is challenging.
Following Guy Claxton’s work on “Building Learning Power,” we regard it as essential that children are explicitly taught how to learn. When planning our lessons we build in opportunities to explain about how the brain works and to teach the Hawley Habits.
In Key Stage One and Two, in developing the Hawley Habits of Learning, we are building on the development of the “Characteristics of Learning” which are part of the EYFS curriculum.
We want all our pupils to take their Hawley Habits with them wherever they go and to become joyful and motivated learners, who will rise to the many challenges that they will face throughout their lifetimes.
